Details Video

This is a lead up to the sequencing and B-roll assignment.

As we learned in our perspectives photo assignment, we don't want to keep our camera at the same distance from our subject at all times. We want to give our audience some visual variety that keeps them engaged with our story. The variance in shot type not only keeps the audience interested, but it should also compliment and add to the story.

One of the key shots in a sequence of b-roll images is the details shot, also known as the extreme close-up (ECU). It happens to also be the shot that students struggle with the most. For that reason, this assignment will focus entirely on the details. In every video I have ever shot, I never once said "Wow, I shot too many details." Also known as cut-aways, they also come in very handy as an editing tool when you need to cover a cut in an interview.
