WHO IS ISRAEL SCHILL? -

I’m a Sports Journalism student at the University of Kentucky with a certificate in Sport Communication, Media, and Promotion. Originally from Goffstown, NH, I’ve always been drawn to sports, not just as a fan, but as a storyteller. From playing on local teams to covering games at the college and professional level, sports have always been the lens through which I connect with people and share stories.

Right now, I’m a lead intern with the UK Sports Network, where I help produce coaches’ shows and pregame/postgame coverage for Kentucky Football and Men’s Basketball. I handle everything from running cameras and audio to coordinating between producers, directors, and on-air talent. I also work directly with athletes and coaches on content creation while mentoring fellow interns to ensure smooth production and high-quality broadcasts. Alongside that role, I cover Kentucky Wildcats athletics for KY Insider, delivering in-depth reporting, player interviews, and behind-the-scenes coverage to keep Big Blue Nation informed and engaged. Before that, I worked as the senior sports reporter for the Kentucky Kernel, where my coverage earned two KPA General Excellence Awards.

Beyond reporting, I’ve gained valuable production experience with the SEC Network, working as a utility assistant, camera operator, and replay operator for live broadcasts. These opportunities have given me a firsthand look at the fast-paced, behind-the-scenes world of sports media and the teamwork it takes to deliver high-level coverage. I also host and produce The Bluegrass Breakdown, a weekly podcast sports where my co-host and I talk what’s hot in Kentucky sports. I’m also responsible for overseeing everything from editing and graphics to short-form content and promotion.

Outside of media, I served as the Communications Chair for UK Hillel and am a proud member of ZBT. As a Jewish Heritage Fund Scholar, I’ve found meaningful ways to lead, connect, and grow. At the core of everything I do is a simple focus: telling authentic stories, highlighting athletes’ voices, and contributing to the ever-evolving world of sports media.
